DedSec
Intro
We're a worldwide society of hackers, serving our own brand of justice. Technology shouldn't be used to control people. Attention tech companies and governments — we're watching YOU. Oh, you thought we wouldn't notice you selling our data to the highest bidder? You thought we wouldn't notice the privacy policy changes designed to fuck us slowly? Hah, think again.
We're arming people with knowledge your total disdain for their privacy and well-being, whilst teaching them how to protect themselves. In due time, you will be exposed.
Expose
Let's see how those "friendly" social networks and online businesses are treating you and your data, shall we?
💀 2018
Holy shit. The revelations brought forth this year are too much to handle in the current capacity of this site. I cannot promise you when but know that a bigger and better DedSec site will come. It is not enough to just have information about the goings-on of these fuckers, up-to-the-minute response is necessary.
In the meantime, check out /r/DedSec
. Anything I post here would also be there.
💀 Dropbox
- 2017
- Dropbox didn't actually delete your "deleted" files, 2 — Somehow, a six-year bug in their system ("metadata inconsistencies") caused deleted files to appear in users' folders. Their service is responsible for doing a few things at the minimum: uploading, downloading, managing, and deleting. Of those four basic actions, their entire organization hadn't noticed this for six years? Okay.
- 2017
- Facebook is collecting this — Vicki Boykis goes in depth with her research on Facebook's bullshit. Includes translations in Dutch, French, Portuguese, and Ukranian.
Protect
There's a lot of services and apps you just shouldn't use because you are being spied upon and catalogued in countless databases. These are the ones you should use. Please note that this isn't a comprehensive list and I'm just one person.
💀 Android Devices
- Blackphone: https://www.silentcircle.com
💀 Antivirus
- NOD32: https://www.eset.com
💀 Apple Devices
- Every modern device they release, really (iPhone 5 and on).
💀 Browser Extensions
- Privacy Badger: https://www.eff.org/privacybadger
- uBlock: https://www.ublock.org
💀 Chat Apps
- Signal: https://www.signal.org
- Underpass: https://underpassapp.com
- Wire: https://wire.com
💀 Cloud Storage
- pCloud: https://www.pcloud.com
Quite frankly, you should run your own email server. It is not super difficult and Mail-in-a-Box is the one I'm using. You should be comfortable with using Terminal (or whatever command prompt is on your system) but even if you aren't comfortable, it is worth learning.
💀 Password Managers
You can't be trusted to choose a strong password AND remember it, so don't bother. You can't leak what you don't know.
- 1Password: https://1password.com
💀 System-level protection
- hosts — Steven Black consolidated host-level block lists from similar projects to create a comprehensive master block list. Pretty sweet. Combine this with the aforementioned browser extensions and the extent of browser tracking decreases drastically.
💀 VPS
